World’s Leading Lithium-ion Battery Manufacturer
CATL, the global leader in lithium-ion battery research & development and production headquartered in China, supplies lithium-ion battery cells, modules, packs, and systems to the global electric vehicle and energy storage markets. Its growing reputation for design, manufacturing, sales, and marketing is bolstered by its safe, high-energy density and fast-charging battery technology. CATL is pursing ambitious global expansion goals and has already established strategic partnerships with leading international enterprises from the automobile industry, such as BMW, PSA and Valmet. At the International Automobile Industry Exhibition in Shanghai, which took place from April 21 to April 28 for representatives of the automobile industry, BMW and CATL exhibited the plug-in hybrid BMW X1 and Brilliance-BMW Zinoro 60H automobiles.
CATL’s battery technology is also used by a number of electric car and bus manufacturers, including BAIC Motor Corp., Geely Automobile., Yutong Bus, Zhongtong Bus, Nanjing Golden Dragon, Xiamen King Long, and Beiqi Foton Motor.
Globalizing a strong footprint
As part of its global expansion strategy CATL is investing in the German market by opening facilities in Berlin and Munich. This investment marks Germany as one of the key locations for the company’s strategic growth in the European region and an important market for the global automotive industry.
CATL attended the Battery Show Europe in early April, which took place for the first time in Sindelfingen, Germany, to highlight the importance of the European market. CATL’s industry-leading products – including the 48V pack for mild hybrid powertrain, PHEV battery system, Battery Management System, “EnerSpeedy” fast-charging products and “EnerMagic” large-capacity cell for commercial vehicles, and its Energy Storage System – were shown during the exhibition, with the company demonstrating their superior performance in safety, reliability and durability.
In 2016, CATL ranked among the top three suppliers of battery power solutions globally with a 6.8 GWh annual shipment. The company’s global lithium-ion production capacity is predicted to rise up to 50 GWh by 2020.
Shaping a world of green mobility
CATL strives for the development of a new sustainable and global energy industry. This is evident in the company’s research and development investments around the world, which have a volume of more than five percent of its annual shipments. “As battery technology will remain one of the main sources for energy storage in the foreseeable future, we are dedicated to providing highly efficient energy storage solutions that help our customers to foster a green mobility,” says Neill Yang, CATL’s marketing director. Until now, the company has more than 1,000 researchers employed in two major R&D centers, one in China and one in Germany. In addition, CATL is maintaining own recycling factories, where used battery cells are brought into a second circle of use.
